Air Conditioning Refrigerant R452ARefrigerant R-452A (commercially known as Opteon™ XP44 or Solstice® 452A) is a blended refrigerant in the hydrofluoroolefin (HFO) group, developed to replace refrigerants R-404A and R-507, specifically for transport refrigeration and commercial refrigeration applications with low to medium temperatures.

Key Features and Benefits of R-452A:

  • Composition: It is a zeotropic blend consisting of R-32 (11%), R-125 (59%), and R-1234yf (HFO) (30%).
  • Low GWP: Has a GWP of approximately 2,140 (according to IPCC AR4) or 1,945 (according to IPCC AR5), representing about a 45% reduction compared to R-404A/R-507.
  • Ozone-friendly: Has an ODP (Ozone Depletion Potential) of zero
  • Safety: Classified as safety group A1 (non-flammable and low toxicity) according to ASHRAE standards.
  • Performance:o Offers cooling capacity and efficiency very close to R-404A/R-507.o Discharge temperature is similar to R-404A, reducing the risk to the compressor.
  • Applications:
    • Primary use is refrigeration for transportation (Transport Refrigeration): such as refrigerated trucks/trailers and reefer containers. o Commercial and industrial refrigeration systems: at low and medium temperatures (Low and Medium Temperature DX Systems). o Retrofit: Can be used as a replacement for R-404A/R-507 in existing systems, usually without the need to change equipment or compressor oil (compatible with existing POE oil), and in many cases, it may not be necessary to adjust the expansion valve (TXV).
